This Fashionpreneur, Uzma Zahoor, on converting challenges into opportunities.

Based in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, Uzma's journey began during her college days at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Inspired to see her designs worn by others, she launched her business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Starting with zero investment, Uzma's initial products included tie-dye scrunchies and hand-embroidered clips, which helped build customer trust and loyalty. A significant milestone was receiving her first order from a celebrity, marking her entry into customized work for high-profile clients.

Uzma's path was fraught with challenges. She faced a sudden drop in orders after an initial boom. Her response was to focus on affordable, hand-dyed scrunchies and handmade clips, regaining momentum through quality and unique offerings. The meticulous creation of a custom dress for a celebrity, completed in ten days, showcased her commitment to excellence.

Her journey taught her the importance of consistency and customer trust. “Business is a roller coaster, with sweet moments and sour ones. Staying steady is crucial,” she emphasizes. Building value and excellent customer support are essential in an era of fragile trust due to numerous brands and potential scams.

Uzma's future plans as an entrepreneur are centered around strengthening and expanding her business every day. She aspires to become a renowned fashion designer, showcasing her capabilities as a woman entrepreneur to the world. One of her key goals is to establish a physical outlet studio, as she currently operates solely online. This studio will be the first step towards building a large chain of labels and boutiques. Uzma plans to hire more people to support this growth, aiming to reach the upper echelons of the fashion industry.

She envisions catering to many celebrities and famous personalities, making her designs accessible to a broader audience. Uzma wants to ensure that her brand is affordable and available to everyone, transcending socio-economic barriers. Her ultimate dream is to see every individual in India, and hopefully worldwide, own a piece from "flower inside my book," making her designs a cherished part of their wardrobe.

Uzma's achievements include viral designs, orders from celebrities, and being featured on a magazine cover. She expanded her solo venture into a team-based operation, establishing a brand label. Her future plans include opening a physical outlet studio and making her designs accessible to a broader audience, aiming to transcend socio-economic barriers.

Her message to all: “Consistency is key. Every woman should have her own source of income, becoming financially independent and strong. As a business owner, show up every day for your community. Learn from mistakes and improve. Girls, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.”
