Sayujya Sajilal on leaving the Corporate Life to Empowering Women with Elegance!

Some journeys are destined to break the mold, defy expectations, and inspire others to follow their dreams. Sayujya Sajilal’s story is a shining example of how passion, resilience, and a leap of faith can create something truly meaningful. Born and raised in Kollam, Kerala, Sayujya’s life was one of steady growth and exploration. After completing her degree and post-graduation in Biotechnology in Bangalore, she began a promising corporate career in product management and marketing for healthcare companies. For 13 years, she thrived in the corporate world, working in Cochin and Pune after her marriage in 2020. But something inside her always knew that a different path awaited.

Despite a successful career, Sayujya felt a persistent nudge—a desire to do something closer to her heart. She yearned for a challenge, something that would allow her creativity to flourish while aligning with her values. However, for a long time, she didn’t have a concrete plan. The turning point came when her passion for the timeless elegance of sarees merged with a growing realization: beautiful sarees were becoming less accessible to working women who sought stylish yet practical options.

From her school days, Sayujya was captivated by the grace of sarees. Her extensive work-related travel across India gave her exposure to diverse fabrics and weaving traditions. Friends and social media followers frequently admired her unique sarees, fueling her dream of creating a platform that would celebrate this love for textiles. With encouragement from her close circle, she took a bold step—leaving her secure job and diving headfirst into entrepreneurship.

Starting without formal business training was daunting. The world of entrepreneurship came with a steep learning curve—building a brand from scratch, managing logistics, and navigating finances were all unfamiliar terrain. The competition was intense, and the pressure was real. Balancing the demands of a new business while managing personal responsibilities was no easy feat. Yet, through every obstacle, Sayujya trusted her instincts, staying focused on her vision and determined to make her dream a reality.

Within a year, her hard work began to pay off. Her brand quickly gained recognition, with a loyal customer base that embraced her carefully curated collections. The overwhelming love and repeat orders were a testament to her dedication. Her brand was featured on Faye D'Souza’s page in the 'Women-run businesses' section, a proud moment for Sayujya. She also found her work recognized in publications like Midday and Photo Vogue. To her amazement, celebrities started wearing her sarees, further affirming her vision.

What began as a side project soon became her full-time focus. Health challenges prompted her to step away from the corporate grind, but they also gave her the opportunity to channel her energy into building her business with unwavering commitment. The brand grew rapidly, with monthly orders jumping from 10 to nearly 200 within a year. Each collection reflected her passion for Indian textiles and her mission to make them accessible to modern women.

For Sayujya, success isn’t just measured in numbers—it’s the joy of connecting women with timeless pieces of heritage. Her vision is clear: to create a go-to brand for working women, offering a blend of elegance, comfort, and practicality. She dreams of expanding her offerings to include everyday cotton dresses and blouses, all while preserving India’s textile heritage. Supporting local artisans and promoting sustainability remain at the heart of her future plans.

Sayujya is also driven to explore international markets, showcasing the beauty of Indian textiles to a global audience. But beyond the business, her ultimate goal is to build a community—a space where women celebrate fashion, culture, and confidence together.

Throughout her journey, Sayujya has embraced innovation and stayed true to her core values. She believes in the power of authentic connections, seeing her customers as the true brand ambassadors. By listening to their feedback, addressing their needs, and staying adaptable, she has built a business rooted in trust and genuine relationships. Her focus on sustainability and ethical practices is shaping the brand’s future, and she’s constantly exploring new ways to blend tradition with modernity.

When asked what advice she would give to aspiring entrepreneurs, Sayujya reflects on the lessons she’s learned: "Follow your passion, but do it with a plan. Have a financial safety net and test your idea before diving in. Be ready for setbacks and don’t let failure stop you—it’s part of the journey. Surround yourself with supportive people, stay open to learning, and most importantly, believe in yourself. Success takes time, but when you stay true to your vision, it will find you."
